I have almost all Panasonic Lumix cameras available and a few good canons, Sony, Nikon y. This camera is by far my favorite. It is easy to handle, easy to use, totally stupid test, and the pictures come out great. I have a Nikon D80 and is a great camera, but for me, this is still my favorite. It's just a fun camera and easy to handle. I am in no way a professional photographer, I love photography and the camera is a joy.

I can use the lens of my Olympus E-410. I was totally impressed with the corner to the definition of the corner. Image stabilization works well. Is this goal worth the money? Personal Review From Customer (Unbiased)

I've been very happy with his performance in many respects, however, has no flash and the kit lens is slow, which means that the results in painfully indoor use high ISO and noise it is impossible to clean. That led me to buy this objective, which is faster to go to the M4 / 3 today.

First, this is wonderfully compact. Much thinner than the Zuiko M. 14-42mm kit, although slightly larger in diameter, and makes the E-P2 profile even lower when mounted. It balances well on the E-P2 and looks well at home for me, though it lacks the signature silver accents PEN. It has a manual focus ring mass is a pleasure to use (once you get the hang of manual focus mechanism micromotor, which shares with the 14-42).

Unlike the newer, smaller 14mm f/2.5 pancake Panasonic Lumix, this guy has some covers of oversized lenses that make it more cumbersome than it should be. One objective of this size leads us to be slipped into your pocket, but large caps that are on the road, you may want to look for aftermarket replacements.

As for intelligence ... so, you can read the letters, but suffice to say that this is a very good team. Unlike M. Zuiko kit lens, this guy is strong open, perhaps with only small gains by stopping down. This goal can really show what M4 / 3 is capable of intelligence perspective in a way that can not zoom kit.

The autofocus is at least as accurate as any other lens I've tried in this body, and accuracy of AF especially in light is very good (thanks, no doubt, to the grand opening). AF speed, but is mediocre at best, and is also a good bit stronger than would be ideal. The opening also makes a very noticeable sound click, it's a little upset with the E-P2 (who constantly plays with the opening when using live view). Neither the noise nor the sound of opening approach is a real problem for still images, but can cause some problems if the video recording with the internal microphone.

There is a problem with this specific objective using the Olympus bodies: do not distortion compensation software Panasonic bodies do with Panasonic lenses. This means that, in the bodies of Olympus only, visible light falloff in the corners when shooting open (goes for about f / 4). In practice there is a big problem, and the corners are not much in most shots anyway, but if you're a shooter PEN should be aware of this and stop losing deal if / when the curves are important.

I should mention also 17mm f/2.8 Olympus itself, which many consider an alternative to this goal. If you're new to photography and you are thinking of owning one, I recommend the Panasonic, whose opening edge and focal length combine to give better options to control DOF. I still enjoy the Olympian (and in fact, is even smaller than * this), but I think for most people in most situations, this is a better option.

In short: if you own body m4 / 3 without flash and attention in all low light shots, stop reading and buy this objective right now. For everyone else, you're here, presumably for the CI, the narrower DOF f/1.7 's, and portability, and in every way offers this goal. It's an all around a great player and cost, although high, is not entirely reasonable that something of this quality.

As a side note, if you're used to 50mm as "normal" age of cinema, I think you will find 20 mm very nice, I've shot a lot with my first 28mm on APS-C, and the 20mm Panny here provides a field of similar view to that.

** Update 05/21/2010 **

My first thoughts on this have proven to be successful. This little goes much, much more time on my camera as the kit lens, the faster opening a gift from heaven, and the smaller size is great for portability. The image quality is impeccable and the light falloff is almost never a problem in real world scenarios. If you only buy one lens for M4 / 3 of the body, make it this one.

** Update 07/08/2011 **

Panasonic has announced a version μ4 / 3 native 25mm f/1.4 Leica brand Panasonic, you should watch less than two times the price of this goal. I have (and revised) of the regular version of the Four Thirds lens, and accounts imply that early version μ4 / 3 should be nearly the same optical full-sized cousin.

The f / 1. 4 25mm is definitely better, but not by much, only half a stop faster, there is hardly clear, and still suffer from corner softness and vignetting wide. The normal focal length is more traditional, which (in combination with the advantage of the opening) makes it suitable for isolation of your subject, but ... least twice the cost and twice the size? These benefits seem difficult to justify.

As for me, the 20mm f/1.7 here remains the first objective to be purchased for a body μ4 / 3. It plays to the strengths of the system without breaking the bank.

Personal Review From Customer (Unbiased)

For a. While I was waiting for a deal that I could carry with me wherever I want, and in particular to the parties and other social events where you bring a digital SLR is not really an option When this camera was announced it really seemed like a dream compact for me. Fast lens, wide and stable optical is ideal for low light interior. The design is elegant and beautiful, the camera is fairly compact and has all the controls you need an advanced amateur. In addition, the sensor is essentially as big as they get into the 10 MP compact cameras and almost reasonable (about a 5 megapixel many but not as bad as 12-15MP you would get at any other agreement with a similar sensor). I had the camera for a couple of weeks (and shame on Amazon for not having in stock a month after it appeared in some other department stores). I like a lot and the camera offers the most promise of Panny. Here are some of the experiences. 1. The image quality is, without doubt, and significantly better than ulracompact cameras (like Panny own FX series). However, it is still a compact camera ... ie there is visible noise even at ISO 80 and a lot of noise at ISO 400. However, noise reduction algorithms seem to be doing a good job and ISO 80 photos look great ... sometimes almost like a DSLR. And even at ISO 400 most shots are good enough to keep. In general the output of this camera is comparable to my 40D at 8 times the ISO (which is 80 on LX3 is about 640 to 400 40D and LX3 is a bit better than 3200 in 40D). Fortunately, with the fast lens and image stabilization which is almost never need to use above 400 ISO. 2. The camera is very responsive and the autofocus is fast and seems accurate. 3. Changing ISO through the menus is a bit of a pain, but a variety of useful ISO regimes provide. Overall control of all the options is not easy ... but I think that's the contract you get with such a small camera with a large LCD screen. Updated: is possible to simplify ISO changing by reassigning a button for this purpose. The downside of this is that now reviewing pictures becomes more complicated. 4. Change the aspect ratio of the lens is more useful than I thought ... saves a lot of crops. 5. Shoot in RAW + JPEG is fast enough to be usable. 6. The camera is quite bulky bit of what appears (and the given dimensions are misleading because they do not include the lens and other protrusions from the main part of the body). No shirt pocket, both in size and weight ... but fits well in a jacket pocket or purse. 7. The macro capability of the camera is really excellent. 8. Having customizable user presets regimes in the dial is very useful and this is not a luxury, even DSLR Canon XSi (shame on Canon!)

In general, it is a great compact camera: in my opinion, undoubtedly the best on the market by a wide margin (I have studied very thoroughly the market). It is in the same league as Canon G-series (which I had when were the best and really liked), but it suits my current needs much more than a Canon Gx. I also think it's a real bargain at around $ 400. But it remains a compact camera with a sensor area of 1 / 8 of most DSLRs and 1 / 20 full frame (mostly pro) DSLR. So expecting miracles as close to DSLR quality or usable ISO 800 + might be disappointed. ================================================== ================ A quick update in response to a comment: 1. In the broader context of the capture is a significant distortion, especially notable in the regime of 16:09. There are also noticeable loss of sharpness in the corners. This may not look good in some pictures (as if a straight face, like someone's at or near the border), but nothing too bad for most shots. 2. HD video is very good for a compact. No zoom, auto focus and sometimes exposure adjustments are not very smooth. So I do not recommend treating it as a video camera. But video is usually given detailed and reasonably smooth (and not at all at 30 fps). I just did a quick comparison with Canon HF10 dedicated compact camcorder (which is as good as they are these days). In bright light LX3 I can not match the 1080p detail of Canon. But the relatively weak light is almost as good. LX3 also has a great advantage in wide angle. All consumer camcorders have dedicated wide-angle 40 mm around which is much worse than the LX3 24mm.

Another impression I have with LX3 and certainly had no other compact is that it is a tool worth learning and investing some time and experimentation. My photos with this camera keep improving even the first decent already.

For anyone interested in sharpness and noise level compared with some cameras you can see http://www.dkamera.de/testberichte/panasonic/lumix-dmc-lx3/bildqualitaet

================================================== ===================== Update December 17: Finally Photoshop Lightroom and started to recognize LX3 raws. The quality of my photos is now even higher: colors much more enjoyable and less noise reduction "spots." Overall, this camera delivers results far beyond what you believe is possible for a compact camera. It still has my highest recommendation.

Update January 27, 2009. The most annoying thing about this camera is its lens cap. Having to remove what is slowing down. Together by a string left hanging ... which detracts from the aesthetics of the camera and can add a little extra movement. But the chain is likely to miss ... and I have not seen any replacement for sale. Anyway, fortunately, creative peoples found that Ricoh LC-1 lens adapter can be easily modified for use on this camera. I've done this and it works much better than the original cover. I uploaded some pictures of the result of product images. Use Google to find instructions for modification.

Personal Review From Customer (Unbiased)

197 of 201 people found this review helpful. 5 first big step S. Chandrasekar For those who do not know, the Panasonic G1 is the first (hopefully of many) camera that adheres to the new micro 4 / 3 format. What is exciting about this? All SLR cameras use mirrors, prisms and optical viewfinder so the photographer can see what he / she holds "through the lens". SLR has remained the de facto standard for most serious photographers because it seems that the whole viewfinder concept so appealing. The micro 4 / 3 eliminates the mirrors and prisms, and replaces the optical viewfinder of an SLR camera viewfinder. This allows the cameras that adhere to the standard to be much smaller (and wide angle lenses designed for this assembly to be smaller too). In the real review ...

The G1's viewfinder is the first time I've seen that is remotely useful. Although not as good as the OVF in my 5D, it is considerably better than the OVF in my older 350D. The first look through the viewfinder will impress anyone who has not used a full frame camera before. While there is a noticeable delay (especially when moving the camera around ... a delay of one tenth of a second, perhaps), the fact that you can see a live histogram in the VF makes the lag completely off. Even better, ventricular fibrillation can increase the gain of the screen in low light conditions so you can actually see what you're shooting (it gets grainy, but it is better to do nothing at all). Finally, when it involves the manual approach, the view in the viewer zoom in the subject automatically allowing the perfect manual focus adjustments every time! Undoubtedly, this is the best interchangeable lens camera on the market, if you are interested in the focus manually.

The LCD screen of the joint design is another option that is on the spot! Why have not other manufacturers caught "Live View" is completely useless without an articulating LCD? The change in the electronic viewfinder LCD is as simple as putting the eye near the viewfinder. A sensor that detects when not in use. The LCD screen is not super-resolution 5DMkII new or D700, but has twice the resolution of my old 5D.

This is the pocket camera? Not a chance. However, not much larger than the largest (with kit lens) than modern superzoom point and shoot cameras. I bought it because I thought I was going to my 5D (with 24-70 f / 2. 8) in the house more often than not, because I do not want to carry much weight. The G1, by comparison, is a joy to hold and carry. For me, size is perfect. Any small and controls are unusably small. Any larger and the camera will start to resemble smaller DSLRs. Side note: The kit lens is to see to believe ... that is so small. Even the 45-200 lens (90-400) is not much larger than the kit lenses for APS-C or FF cameras (let alone compared with the monstrous 100-400 lens canon makes).

The noise is reasonable. I do not go beyond ISO1250 for prints with the G1. ISO1600 and 3200 are more than useful for web display (which is how most of my photos shown). I never understood how to print ISO6400 prints are suddenly required for all cameras ... How many people actually print a large number of images anyway? Reduced the size of Facebook or Picasaweb, I imagine that a ISO6400 G1 image would be more than enough.

What I dislike is the lack of large aperture lenses for the format. You can buy adapters to use standard 4 / 3 lenses, but most 3.4 lenses are probably larger than their counterparts micro43 future (and AF does not work with many of them). There are also adapters for Leica M mount (I'm trying to convince my boyfriend that Leica lenses are a better investment than the stock market right now ... but do not think she is buying it). The depth of field is greater micro43 and because the smaller sensor, so it will be difficult to achieve isolation theme of the photographs until large aperture prime lenses available.

I am very excited about the future of this format. Panasonic has promised a G1HD person in the first half of this year (a G1 with video capabilities). In addition, three new lenses have been announced: a 14.7 f/1.7 f / 4, 14-140, and best of all, a 20 mm cake! Olympus also showed a concept of a camera micro43 seemed bigger than a small point and shoot. The future is exciting!

For a long time I only had 07.14 and 20mm pancake and I have to say I changed the shooting. Limited to this range, no long zoom, I started looking wider perspectives, and ways to use depth of field to remove an object that would otherwise be lost in its surroundings. Soon, my portraits, especially of groups, began to swim in the context, something so often missing in portrait photography. But above all lenses produce stunning images, deep rich color, fresh and worth taking the time to really study, instead of looking a.

I wanted a telephoto lens, but was not sure if the current 45-200 compliant standards same optics as the 20 and 14/07 so held off.

Then came the Olympus 9-18. Initially dismissed the news of the lens as it covers an area that already had under control, but then I read reviews and began to think about it. The decision to take the step that purpose ordered more or less the day it came out and was surprised when he arrived very quickly. It is incredibly small, not to accumulate, but it's something to remember, because it takes great pictures. Sweeping shots that cover the stage and deliver it in one big bite, satisfactory to the viewer. In the end I could find little difference images except the range 1407 added at the bottom, which should not be discounted. But I soon realized I was not wearing 7.14 more. It was larger, more specialized. The GF1 is 9-18 with my neck hanging around with my 20mm in my bag and I find myself forgetting to move the tables, as to 18.9 nearly touching its range anyway.

So what am I saying? For those who enjoy shooting wide angle, as a rule, the 09/18 is spectacular and possibly become your go-to lens, especially during the day that you can keep your aperture as low as possible . To thiose only get in the shots of Big Sky, 14. 7 has lower rank than the fabulous and the pictures are a bit more vivid, brighter in the center, a little more satisfying.

Both have their place, depending on what your desires are, but, ironically, 18/09 to recommend the true lover of wide angle, and 14.7 to the tourist a big deal, although it may seem contradictory. 9mm is the ideal point of view 90 degrees horizontal, and in reality they want to be before the barrel distortion becomes the main issue rather than a function. So pick your poison and enjoy.

Personal Review From Customer (Unbiased)

On the radio man This camera is a Panasonic GF3 pretty impressive that can take very sharp images with very good IQ / dynamic range, and the overall color. Besides my love of photography I like to use the best of the best cameras in its class, if I can afford it. I have had, or owns the S95/Fuji X100 Canon / Sony NEX-5, had the original E-P1, the GF1 had before.

I've been looking forever for a small digital SLR camera that can take such pictures. Despite the GF1 had a little more manual control than the GF1 is, for example, even flash compensation .. I can not seem to find that the adjustment in the GF3. Economic balance point and shoot often allow you to change the amount of flash to be used, which is one of Con here.

Although in general, but with the same sensor as the largest and GF1 GF2 GF3 my photos are my best overall in terms of color, noise, focus, moire pattern virtually no problems .. The GF1 was a lot of moire pattern noise, GF3 seems much cleaner.

The GF3 has something called focus point. It works great and super fast. You choose any point on the LCD screen you want to focus, drag the point where you want. Press the shutter button halfway down .. You can focus on just one eye or any small spot you want. The first screen will show an enlarged view so that you know you have a perfect focus .. this is one. Bigger picture after picture to have in focus also depending on what mode you choose to approach the focus speed is fast rocket in this chamber and usually very accurate. Outdoor images look as good as a digital SLR camera high quality in terms of overall dynamic range, saturation of very little relief, color .. and 14 mm lens has virtually no purple fringing. The reason why only four stars is however the GF3 is pretty good so 800iso .. still see a bit too much noise and yellow spots inside jpegs unless the light is brighter or use ISO 400 or less. It's a shame that there is no image stabilization on the Olympus camera .. Another disadvantage when using the lens or lens of 14 mm aperture of 1.7 here. My x100 Fuji can use ISO 2000 in low light and still are amazing. BUT the x100 has a full-size sensor and a fixed lens camera .. and is much more expensive and larger than the GF3 so not a fair comparison.

In general, in terms of overall image quality, small form factor, this camera with large sensor size is almost the same size as the one I have also LX5 Pana ... you can not beat the GF3 in general, so the camera can take with you .. vs a heavy bulky camera creeps down.

I have not used the video function, it is not important to me, so I can not comment on that.

I like the photos of this GF3 usually a little more of my NEX-5 because the NEX-5 for me, all photos are all a little too soft .. Planes often focuses too much .. NEX and the color seems a little too saturated .. (But not right). That said, the NEX5 blows away the high iso GF3 .. therefore, depends on how you will use the camera more.

In general .. I think most people really like the GF3. Of course, if you need a shoe .. it obviously does not have one. For me, if I'm going to use a shoe .. It will defeat some small factor, so why bother with a small camera of this type in the first place. I applaud Panasonic for more things here. The touch screen works very well, you just need to get used to it. Is 2011 .. Perhaps this is the way forward, change is often painful ..:) In general .. This is an excellent camera .. maybe a bit expensive .. but I am an excellent camera for most points.

Panasonic Lumix 100-300mm f/4.0-5.6 G Vario Aspherical MEGA OIS Lens for Micro Four Thirds Interchangeable Lens Cameras Review

67 of 71 people found this review helpful. 5 About the killer app for Micro 4 / 3 (update) By B. Fuller Panasonic has taken a long time to realize one of the greatest strengths of the M4 / 3 is exploiting the crop factor of 2x. Now they have done with the 100-300mm lens. This objective is equivalent to 5.6 to 200 mm-600 mm! Wow (in 1:1 mode Video Tele Extender 2.6x extender to get a back and forth a 1560mm f/5.6 lens 520-equivalent). If you check the specifications of your 600mm lens will see government stop faster and costs about $ 14,000 oh. That is not an error. It also weighs 11 pounds. So they are just something you tote around. Now ideally, Panasonic would come out with a 300mm f/2.8 and at f / 4. That would be super lenses in M4 / 3. However, it would be larger and heavier than this lens. So this lens is ideal for daylight shooting of birds, sports, safari animals. Almost anything you need to reach out and touch.

This is the largest Panasonic M4 / 3 lens so far and weighs 1.14 pounds. To give a comparison, the Nikon 70-300 mm lens weighs 1.6 pounds. Unfortunately in 4.9 "length is not as small as I think it should be. The Nikon 70-300 VR is 5.6" long and not much bigger is a FX lens. However, with that said this is a solid target with great construction. It is typical of all of their ultimate goals high like the fisheye 8 mm and 7-14mm wide angle. Something to note is that this target will be difficult to handle for use in all Olympus M4 / 3 and GF Panasonic lines.

This goal takes pictures very nice and very fast autofocus. Especially in the GH2. Image stabilization works as advertised.

In general, if you are looking to take pictures of birds, their children's soccer games, or anything else you would use a 600 mm lens, this is to be used on the M4 / 3.

For comparison, the Olympus 75-300mm f/4.8-6.7 is smaller and lighter and covers a larger range. However, it has image stabilization, since it is incorporated in the Olympus. So this would be a good target for users of Panasonic. Also, I prefer the construction and feel of Panasonic. However, this is my personal preference. Oh, the Olympus is $ 900 vs $ 600 for the Panasonic.

Update

Now that I have had the opportunity to play with this objective in the GH2 for awhile, I can say that this combination is ideal for shooting wildlife. The GH2 has an extra Tele Converter (ETC) makes this mode a 840mm lens equivalent (FTE average) and 1,200 mm (ETC Small). When shooting in this mode you are getting an 8-megapixel image and 4 PM, respectively. Yes you can crop an image to achieve the same increase. However, ETC mode selection is more likely to focus on ultra-sharp image on the subject. In addition, it saves a step in your workflow and saves space on your computer. So find useful ETC mode for still images as well. As a negative aspect is that makes your smaller sensor so it is not very useful in high ISO.

In general, a brilliant goal and a no brainer, if you are looking for a longer range than the M4 / 3.
